I know it's been awhile...and I definitely have several posts to come from the craziness of the past 2 weeks! I'll get to those exciting happenings later. For now, I'm writing this post to tell you about a couple of very exciting things that happened the past few days.
First, on Saturday morning I was trying to do a little reorganizing. I had pulled out several boxes from the storage room to put away clothes that no longer fit Brandt (it seems as if 75% of his clothes fit into that category!). There was a box that I had labeled "big clothes for Brandt"--clever, I know-- and I wasn't really sure what to expect when I opened it. Well much to my fantastic surprise, it was a box full of clothes that I got from my sis-in-law, Nicki, that her kids no longer fit into or would never wear. I went through the whole thing & was able to pull out 4 t-shirts, 3 pair of athletic shorts, 1 athletic jacket & a tie. It was like a little mini-Christmas! I was so excited! I had completely forgotten this box existed & had just had a conversation with Seth the day before about how badly we need to buy Brandt clothes so this was some sweet timing!
As if that's not good enough to brighten the day, something marvelous happened shortly after. I ran upstairs to get some cleaning essentials & the TV was left on. Since I had a Hillsong Kids video playing downstairs in a futile attempt to entertain my son while I tried to clean without his "help", I decided to give the channels a quick run through to see what adult things were on...wait, that did NOT sound right...you know what I mean! So anyways, I went to the ESPN Classic channel (a must in any household) because often on Saturdays, they do a marathon of the old school American Gladiators. A show that I still to this day find extremely entertaining. Much to my disappointment, this was not what was playing. But my frown was quickly turned upside down! What WAS on was a magical little show called, 'Stump the Schwab'. For those not educated on the show, you don't know what you're missing! This is one of my favorite shows...EVER! It is a 30-minute sort of sports trivia compete against the expert kind of game show type thing. I hope that explanation helped :) It's hosted by Stuart Scott & features 'The Schwab' who is a sports trivia genius & each week 3 contestants compete for a chance to go head to head with The Schwab (just saying his name brings a smile to my face). The questions & categories they come up with are so clever. Now I don't claim to be ANY type of sports genius, or even semi-smart when it comes to sports trivia but I just find this show so entertaining. You can't help but get sucked in & be mesmerized by this mans talent! Please tell me that some of you out there now what I'm talking about & have some love for Schwabby also! I haven't seen this show since we lived in AZ & had forgotten just how much I missed it.
God decided to smile upon me on Saturday & give me a little extra bit of sunshine & rainbows with these 2 surprises! *Sigh....it was the best day!
That reminds me of a quote...$5 to the first person that can tell me what this quote is from.
"One day at work, someone brought in a basket of mini-muffins & everyone went crazy. It was the best day"
"Your work makes me sad!"
Of course, you need to realize that these are 5 bucks in the blogging world, which when converted to real money, equals.....nothing. Good luck!
Well I can still hardly believe it, but yesterday Brandt turned 2! Two years ago this giant sized baby came into our lives & it's been an adventure ever since! My heart is so full, I never knew it could grow this big. It's hard to imagine trying to fit anyone else into our little family but after days like Sat., I feel as if I want 10 more just like this one! Ok, maybe if we could dial down the energy level a little on the other 10, I could manage. Or maybe we go with just 2 more?? Well...we'll see. So back to Saturday- Seth had to work & my parents had a meeting so I was a little frantic thinking it would be just Brandt & I trying to get everything in order. Thank goodness my sister Kristin came to the rescue & go to town around 10. Just in time to come with us to pick up the cake & get a few last minute things I had forgotten! We got back & started in on the food preparations. We had chili, cornbread, cookies & icing to whip up, plus get the decorations set in place & only a few hours to do it all. We got it all done in time, but not without a few hiccups along the way....like the sugar cookies NOT turning out quite like planned. We used cookie cutters to make all sorts of fun shapes that everyone could decorate & take home. Well after they baked, they didn't all look like their intended shape & we had quite the laugh trying to solve the problem. The chili turned out good (if I do say so myself) & the cornbread was squeezed well...don't ask. The decorations looked good, despite the fact that we lost several balloons due to my lack of hot air- pause for your mean comments- but Kristin had plenty of her own & helped out :) 4 o'clock came around & everyone arrived. Brandt was so excited to have some friends over! We started by decorating cookies, the adults had just as much fun as the kids. Then we opened presents; Brandt got a velcro baseball glove & ball, a plastic fishing rod with fish to catch, 2 shirts for the summer, a v-tech computerized book thingy & a 1 1/2 gallon fish tank of his very own, equipped with 3 fish & all! We ate some food, followed by the Handy Manny cupcake creation & then let the kids run wild. All in all, I'd say it was a good day. Brandt definitely enjoyed his special day, as was evidenced by his bright red face & incredibly sweaty head at the end of it all! I'll post a few pictures from the day. More can be seen on facebook.....if you don't have that yet, be cool & join!

Apparently there's an issue with being able to leave comments on here! There's something wrong with the template I'm using (very sad because I searched through hundreds & this was one of the few I actually liked) so if you have trouble leaving a comment now....give me a day or two to fix it & try again. If this looks really plain & boring, I apologize, I might have to revert to a basic template while I figure something else out. Sorry for the confusion!
Get it?? Back in the blog again- play on 'back in the saddle again' -come on people, I know you think it's funny! Or at least maybe clever?! Well I know I smirked at it. Anywho...
So this is my official attempt at giving this whole thing another try. I know that my first go at it wasn't exactly spectacular (as shown by the year absence I took) but I'm feeling confident about this one! I think the hiatus was probably for the best because the past year hasn't been my finest & I think had I tried to during that, I would've maybe said some things that weren't, what you'd call "friendly" or "appropriate". Better to not spread your animosity...or so I've been told!
So a quick year in review-
-we moved from Indianapolis to Tucson, AZ for a job at a church there & let's just say that
things were less than ok there & 5 months later, we were back in the Midwest, 3 states in 1yr
was NOT fun
-we now live in Michigan, in my parents basement (so cool, I know) trying to get back on our
feet
-Brandt is almost 2 (T-Minus 3 days) & I still can't believe it, he is a ball of energy that never
seems to stop moving or talking...something that still puzzles Seth & I since we are both such
calm & reserved people
-Seth & I celebrated our 5 yr anniversary in January
-I dyed my hair probably a 8 or 9 times
-I got my nose pierced & YES it hurt
-I coached JV volleyball this past fall at the high school year, loved it more than I thought I
would
-still borderline obsessed with reality TV
Alright, I'd say we're all caught up now. Feels like I never even left the blog world, right? I know this wasn't the most exciting post but I didn't know what to write about for my first. I promise to be more entertaining on my next one. Keep in mind that we're talking about entertaining by MY standards. Here's to a long & prosperous blog life.
WOO-HOO I'm back!!!
